eM Client is suggesting my database is missing or is corrupted, how can I restore the database?

If you get an error indicating that your database is corrupted, the fastest possible way to get eM Client running again is to restore your data from a backup.

If you do not have a backup, you might have to start over with an empty database (though if you have your accounts set up with IMAP or EWS protocol it will be synchronized back after you set up your accounts again).
If you are a PRO user get in touch with our PRO support about data restoration possibilities for POP accounts and Local data.

Either way, to start eM Client over please close the error/program and rename the corrupted database folder. eM Client will create a new, empty database on next startup.

The default location of the database is C:\Users\<windows user account>\AppData\Roaming\eM Client  

  • <windows user account> stands in for the name of your Windows account, which is unique to you
  • AppData is a hidden User folder, but you can either set Windows to show Hidden files or type the path into Windows Explorer directly to access it

When you open eM Client with an empty database, you can then restore using Menu > File > Restore.

Or set up your accounts anew in Menu > Tools > Accounts.
